School Safety News: Knife Attack in Scottish School

School Lockdown News

13 year old girl arrested after alleged assault with knife at a school in Dumfries and Galloway

Police were called to the school on Thursday 17th January, following a reported assault on a 13 year old boy.

A 13 year old girl was arrested in relation to the alleged knife attack, and the victim treated for superficial injuries. The school cannot be named for legal reasons.

A knife was recovered by police.

A spokesperson for the local Council said “The incident was dealt with quickly and appropriately. The school operated normally for the rest of the day.”

Oliver Mundell, Conservative Dumfriesshire MSP, commented "It is always disturbing to learn of any such incident in a school, particularly one in my own constituency. Thankfully such reports are rare and the police will have to complete their investigation to establish the circumstances. My thoughts are with pupils, staff and parents at a difficult time.”

We have previously reported on the high number of weapons seized in schools. The Department for Education is currently seeking views on proposals for School Security guidance, with the consultation period running until 18th February 2019.
